Passionate Beginnings
Established in 1972, University Kiwanis ranks as the largest Kiwanis organization in Division 17 and among the largest clubs per capita in the Carolinas District. The efforts of the club's founder, former Greenville Mayor Les Garner, set out to mobilize a team of passionate, civic-minded men who would lay the groundwork for what is now nearly five decades of "Serving the Children of the World" right here in eastern North Carolina. With a membership of more than 80, University City Kiwanis has provided countless volunteer hours and donated more than $1.5 million to help improve the lives of children in Greenville, Pitt County, North Carolina, and throughout the United States and world.
